LITE ROCK/CARLSON'S All Pro Sports 5K - October 27, 1990 Front Street Park - Melbourne FL What was to be the first of many charity races, became the first and only when the primary sponsor, radio station WMEL, closed down. Lite Rock 99 and Carlson's All Pro Sports and Trophies took over sponsorship with Lori Campbell still at the helm as race director. The confusion surrounding WMEL situation resulted in a smaller than expected turnout (122 finishers), but those who did run had a chance to race on what is becoming the most popular course in the area. The out and back over the Melbourne Causeway gave the runners a chance to watch Doug Butler run away with the race . Doug ran a time of 15:33 against Tim Fortier's 16:38 and Jim Donnelly's 16:42. In the women's division, Cathy Dowling won the race with a time of 19:36, which was good enough for 22nd overall . Sharon Mitchell was second with a time of 21:17 and Tracy Baxter was third in 21:31. Temperatures were ideal, with the expected river breeze being noticeable but not extreme. There was some confusion at the beginning resulting in a false start and a first mile split off by a minute, but otherwise it was a flawless race. - GEORGE REVELS OVERALL MALES 01.
