Track Shack G P Series(1989-1990 SC RUNNERS)-Fun Runs March - April 1990 Track Shack Grand Prix Series: Several Space Coast Runners achieved recognition for their perfomances in the Orlando road race series. The Winter Park 10K was the last race in the 1989-1990 series. - GFR SPACE COAST RUNNERS: Tim Fortier 3rd 25-29 Males Marty Winkel 2nd 45-49 Males Delight Abreu 3rd Overall Nancy Huy 1st 35-39 Females Pat Dixon 2nd 50-54 Females Angela Saldana 3rd 60 + Females Winter Park 10K (Orlando)-March 31, 1990 Every year I've run this race I end up soaked from the humidity. This year we ended up soaked up for other reasons. Heavy rain was the cause for most of this race. The water kept it cool, but probably slowed everyone down (except for Bill McCord who seems to run a PR under any conditions). Most Space Coast Runners spoke of Personal Worsts, so no attempt was made to collect times. A few performances of note, however, are included. - GFR Space Coast Runners' times: Doug Butler 32:43 3rd OA Tim Fortier 32:58 5th OA, 2nd AG Bill McCord 33:42 Terry Haden 36:22 2nd AG Marty Winkel 38:36 3rd AG Delight Abreu 38:58 1st AG Pat Dixon 50:56 3rd AG Sally McCord 54:30 Angela Sadana 58:54 3rd AG Death Valley Marathon (Cal) - March 24, 1990: I recently completed the first annual Death Valley Marathon on March 24th. The run started at 9 am at 4,000 ft and wound its way up and down the gravel jeep trail through Titus Canyon. The final killer ascent to 5200 ft provided the last uphill and "cool" breezes. The continual descent to 100 ft was accompanied by temperatures over 90 F up to 98 F. While the run was "unique" among my limited experiences, the scenery was unsurpassed !! I'm planning for next year already ! - Bruce Roberts Space Coast Runner's times: Bruce Roberts 4:42:18 27th OA Wickham Park Fun Run (10K) - March 25, 1990 The Fun Run and Walk was attended by a fair amount of participants. Some used the run for some low mileage training, which this course is splendidly adapted to, covering much less than the 10 Km distance. Our walkers covered about 2 miles. Wayne Borell was jet propelled for the first two miles then "tip toed through the tulips" for another4.2 miles while flapping his lips in the company of results editor George Revels. Seems everybody was a lip flapper for the full 10Km. Is this why they call it a fun run? - Harold Tucker Fun Run Results: Bob Sudomiz 43:06 Bill Allred 49:05 Wayne Borell 53:43 Jeff Sudomiz 54:30 Joe Sudomiz 61:11 Joe Evon 61:11 Wickham Park Fun Run (4M) - April 5, 1990: This Fun Run and Walk was well attended. John Chioma, Cocoa Beach Fun Run and Walk Director, pried himself loose from the beach long enough to participate. Way to go, John! Some used this event for their EASY DAY workout. You can tell if you know what they are capable of. Shoot, that's one reason we have fun runs. Right? Joining us this day was Jim Scarbourgh who is the oldest continnuous dues paying member of our club. He joined 2 weeks after the club was first formed. 1976 as I remember. Also joining us was Dick Whitmore who is turning the newsletter over to Tom and no more writing now of any kind? Richard, thanks for doing the newsletter, all of those issues, from myself and the club members. Just when we were going to double your wages too! (Let's see now, 2 x 0 = 0. Whoops, now I see why.) - Harold Tucker Fun Run Results: Bill McCord 22:52 Jim Hustoles 27:04 Papa Bisset 27:22 Dick Whitmore 27:59 Bob Hogan 28:57 Don Luedtke 31:25 Wayne Borell 27:27 George Revels 27:27 Jim Scarbourgh 31:48 John Chioma 31:59 Sally Golden-McCord 34:35 Matt Mahoney 34:40 John Chioma 31:59 Joe Evon 37:17 Cocoa Beach Fun Run (3M) - April 12, 1990: The placings will be 1 or 2 places off from the place that entrants received on their finish slips, and it is all my fault. "Gulp-p-p", goes Tucker! An explanation is warranted and here goes. Just after the event started, two young speed demons arrived. I started them exactly three minutes late and adjusted their time by that amount. With the help of the cross country sheet scoring and the times the contestants put down (most of which were almost in perfect agreement) it all dove-tailed. - Harold Tucker Fun Run Results: Zoltan Varadi 18:49 Jeffrey Cook 19:34 Paul Leadholm 19:57 Harold E.
