Space Coast Classic 15K--November 19, 1989 Melbourne Beach, Fl Race Results--Revels & Borell Space Coast Classic: Race Director Patty Dial used her connections this year to guarantee ideal racing conditions for this race. Cool temperatures were present for the runners November 19 for the fourth annual 15k held in Melbourne Beach. The good weather, perfect timing and some key race promotion boosted attendance from 109 to 141 this year. The crowd size and the course left little room for congestion and a cursory glance of last year's results showed quite a few runners with improved times. There was plenty of water on the course with aid stations staffed by some of our finest club members. Available at the finish were plenty of post race munchies and all entrants received a high quality 3-D tee-shirt. Doug Butler won the men's division in a time of 50:00 improving his time last year by over three minutes. James Hill was second with a time of 51:21 and Doug Lott was third in 53:01. In the women's division, Sherry Morin finished first with a time of 57:15. Valerie Kenney was second with a time of 59:39 and Delight Chambers-Abreu finished third in 60:49. This year's race included a heavy-weight division with 5 competitors all male (no women were willing to admit to being a heavy-weight ?) . Added bonuses to this year's race included an appearance by the Bill Dial, who flew in from Atlanta to run this race. Also present was the Nike South Florida Racing team from Fort Lauderdale and one of Florida's most active runners (both in racing and directing); Deland's John Boyle (much to the chagrin of those in the 45-49 age group who thought they might have first place sewn up). - GFR OVERALL MALES 01.
