Eighth Annual Bargain Beach 10K Patrick AFB--August 6th, 1989 Race Director: Harold Tucker Bargain Beach by George Revels 107 competitors showed up for the Bargain Beach run this year and watched as last year's winner, Doug Butler, showed why he was Runner of the Year. Doug went out strong and was never challenged. His finishing time of 33:28 was a course record and well over a minute faster than last year's time. Finishing second and third were Bob Perry (35:12) and Jorge Abreu (35:44). Delight Chambers-Abreu ran uncontested for a 42:17 victory in the women's division. Nancy Huy had a better view of the winner than Bob did, finishing second with a 42:58. Dede Henrich was third with a 43:16. For a career second shifter, the 7am start was as close to insanity as I care to get. However, thumbs up to Harold for the early start. Although warm, the conditions were pleasant at that hour. By the time 8am rolled in and it got HOT, the race was over. The tide was higher than Harold would have liked, but the sand conditions were good. All in all, ideal conditions for that race and the times show it. This year's race is significant for many reasons, not the least of which was the return of Rob Weaver to the Space Coast racing scene. Rob, who's been hiding behind excuses the last few years came ready to race. Any day now I'm expecting a challenge for Fastest Guy in Controls. OVERALL Male 01.
