The south rim road has lots of overlooks with spectacular views. I was here a couple of years ago and hiked to the bottom, but this year I wanted to get to Silverton so I only stayed a few hours and hiked the little 1/4 mile long trails to the overlooks. The route I took was not quite this steep :-)
The Painted Wall is the highest wall in Colorado, 2000 feet high. It is closed for climbing from Mar. 15 to July 15 to protect nesting condors. Sorry.
