Suntree Dash 5K - November 9, 1991 Melbourne, FL This year's Suntree Dash was held under what I would expect was very good racing. weather. I didn't run it, so I was a bit uncomfortable standing out in the misty cold, but it's just cold enough to be lousy watching weather, it usually means it's great for racing. The overall times seem to back this up with course records being set for both men and women. The weather conditions moved the runners into the swimming pool area (and I heard no reports of anyone going in, even Matt) for registration and awards. The post race party included a Dixie Land Band which was a great touch. High Marks to Brigit Kirchofer and her crew for a fine race. There were 211 finishers in this year's race up from 160 last year. Jeff Cooper was the overall winner in in a time of 15:50, over a minute faster than Kevin Butler's time from last year. Bill McCord was second overall and the first Space Coast Runner in a time of 16:20. Pat Flynn was third in 16:41. Julie Gunn was the first female overall with a time of 19:17. She too was almost a minute faster than Cindy Wright's time at last year's race. Rebecca Sparks was second overall with a time of 19:50 and Christy Sweeney was third with a time of 20:20. All three women earned 100, 90 and 80 points respectively in the Runner of The Year Series.
