Pineapple 10K, Melbourne Beach, Fl.-- 5/12/1984 10k run Tops Melbourne Beach celebration Melbourne Beach celebrated its 101st birthday Saturday with a little dancing, a lot of eating and a whole lot of running. Founder's Day activities included the 7th annual Pineapple 10k run. The race began at a 8a.m. and , 32 minuets and two seconds later, defending champion Keith Witthauer led the 364 runners across the finish line. Delight Chambers was the first woman to complete the 6.2 mile run, finishing with a time of 39:12, which placed her 48th overall. After the runners finished running, the bathtub racers started tubbing. Five local bathtub-racing enthusiasts competed in the "regatta" which consisted of three heats of eight laps each around a buoy marked course in the water. The Rick and Dan Racing Team took top prize, followed by Skip Ellingham's tub and the Keels and Wheels tub captained by Joe Philips. The Keels and Wheels tub that was piloted by Mark Hall took the fourth place booby prize, and the Brian Brubaker piloted tub was unanimously declared the ugliest in attendance. Perhaps Brubaker should have washed away those filthy soap rings. By the way, anyone that's interested in getting their tub in the water and taking it for a spin should contact Melbourne Beach fire chief Wayne Lynch . He's interested in starting a bath-tub racing club. as published in Floriday Today: Top 100 Pineapple 10K finishers 1. Keith Witthauer 32:02 2. David Smith 32:21 3. Tom Hoffman 32:37 4.
