The following letter was sent to all participants from the Rio Grande
National Forest Sagauche Ranger District:

Crestone 100 Participants
It was brought to my attention that you are planning to participate in an event
in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness on the Rio Grande National Forest. The event is called the Crestone 100 and your names and email addresses are located on the participant list in this web site, http://www.mattmahoney.net/coslam.html. I am officially informing you that this event is not authorized and will not be authorized to take place in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness. Competitive events are not allowed in designated wilderness areas in accordance with FSM 2323.13(h). If you do participate in this event you will receive a violation notice, under 36CFR 261.10(k). This is a class B misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $5000 and/or 6 months in jail.
I also noticed in the web site above that other events are planned on other National Forests. Please contact the appropriate National Forest to see if these events are authorized or approved.
